The Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) is a strategic alliance of members, partners and international agricultural centers that mobilizes science to benefit the poor. The CGIAR mission is to achieve sustainable food security and reduce poverty in developing countries through scientific research and research-related activities in the fields of agriculture, forestry, fisheries, policy and environment. Through its ICT-KM Program the CGIAR promotes and supports the use of innovative information and communications technology (ICT) and knowledge management (KM) tools and methods to improve the effectiveness of its work and in particular to manage, make accessible, and communicate its research outputs. The CGIAR supports 15 international agricultural centers located in various parts of the world, mostly in the developing countries. These centers conduct research and training on various aspects of agriculture and the products of these researches are distributed as global public goods to end-users in the less-developed countries.
